Buddipole deluxe8/26/2023 I definitely needed to use my auto tuner. So if I went too far from where I tuned the ham radio HF antenna then the SWR would rise rapidly. One issue was that the antenna was very narrow in the band. I tuned the Ham Sticks to be in the middle of the bands. I found I needed to use the Buddipole Triple Ratio Switch Balun (TRSB) on 40 meters so I could get the SWR right. ![]() The one thing I liked about this antenna was that to change to a different band all I needed to do was put on Ham Sticks for the band I wanted. I attached my Buddipole antenna adaptor to the ends with the antennas. I needed to guy wire the antenna since it was so high in the air. I again used my Buddipole VersaTee and the Buddipole 18ft mast. Then I saw someone using Ham Sticks as a dipole antenna. Most of the time they used just one mounted on their car. I saw people using Ham Sticks for their portable HF antennas. SteppIR – CrankIR Portable Ham Radio Antenna DIY 20 Meter Portable Ham Radio Antennaġ. Here is my list my Best POTA HF antennas I have used on my Parks on the Air activations. ![]() So, what are the best portable ham radio HF antenna I use for my POTA activations? I live in a condo with no way to put up a ham radio HF antenna and there is so much RF noise I can’t hear anyone. The other reason I love doing POTA activations is because I can’t do any ham radio operations from my home. I have had the chance to see a lot of beautiful scenery in the United States. I love the challenge of making ham radio contacts all over the world and visiting national parks, state parks and other POTA entities while doing it. This Blog is mainly dedicated to Amateur Radio (Ham radio) and contains external articles and personal esperiences.I love doing POTA – Parks on the Air activations. All the antenna bag, once full, is not heavy at all.Īs backup antenna and for excercise I will try to build a home made buddipole antenna, with pvc tubes, maybe a dedicated version for 30 meters band, for my PSK31 nights from the apartment. The Bag is usefull to carry on everything including the tripod, thta is the biggest thing inside. I’ve just experienced a problem with a pole connector, since the very first day, I will keep in touch with Bud to have some info. Manufacture of the antenna is good, also accessories, are well done. I’ve noticed also that SWR change with the rotation of the dipole, and with the height of the mast. I know that on lower bands is recommended very free space, and some particular procedurres, but really have not had much time to investigate yet on this. In 40 meters in example, I’ve never been able to go lower than 3:1 swr. Tuning this antenna is very easy in all bands till 20 meters, for lower bands, gain and tuning is really problematic. Well, about gain, you cannot ask much to a portable antenna, what I can tell you is that signal reports received compared to the dipole, 7 meters above the ground, were really comparable in 15-17-20 meters. ![]() (except few sporadic digital activities from home, using this antenna on the balcony). Since my current antenna restrictions does not permit me to have a real antenna on the roof, the portable operations are my current only way to be active on ham radio bands. I’ve been able to compare this antenna to my old 3 bands dipole antenna.įirst of all, one of the main reason I’ve bought this antenna is the “portability”, even if I’ve choosen the deluxe edition that includes the tripod. Here you are a recent picture of one of my laster Buddipole experiences ! Well, I’ve played with this antenna one month, and overall impressions, is really positive.
